Shop/Field Equipment Mechanic Job Requirements
- Has at least 5 years’ experience and a good working knowledge of small to medium size steam turbines, centrifugal pumps, reciprocating pumps & compressors, fans, gear reducers/increasers & other mechanical equipment (valves, actuators, etc.)
To include performing and recording initial visual inspections, disassembly & cleaning, performing a detail inspection, recording necessary repairs required and reassembling the above listed equipment.
- Mechanics need to know how to troubleshoot issues with above equipment and able to create a ‘failure analyses’ upon above equipment.
- Maintain equipment to design specifications per OEM/ASME/API or customer supplied specifications.
- Replace pump or turbine seals, mechanical seals, pump / turbine packing. Provide proper alignment for all rotating equipment.
- Perform preventative/predictive maintenance and troubleshoot problems.
- Determine and document materials needed for repairs during the teardown and inspect portion of the job.
- Perform mechanical runouts, axials and diameters on numerous types of rotors and being able to inspect turbine blading, shrouds and tenons-pump impellers vanes, gearbox tooth evaluations. Perform inspections of numerous rotor components and necessary repairs to include shaft sleeves, seals and turbine trip hub assemblies. Able to remove and install drive coupling to include taper fit couplings & inspections/repairs of said couplings. Knows how to clearly document the above requirements.
- Knows basic math and how to use & read a scale, precision micrometers (inside & outside), digital calipers & veneers, Height & depth gages, radius & parallel gages and hole gages.
- Must be able to read process mechanical drawings and follow mechanical specifications.
- Able to read and understand printed instructions
- Must be a self-starter who can work safely under high pressure situations
- Possess basic understanding of alignment of pumps, turbines, gearboxes, compressors, sheaves, sprockets, machine centers. Laser alignment knowledge preferred.
- Knows how to use hand tools, air & hydraulic tools and propane & acetylene torches. Must have basic tools and toolbox.
- Can operate fork trucks in a safe manner.
- Must be willing to work overtime, weekends and off-shifts when required, work in chemical plants (field jobs) and willing to travel as necessary.
- Basic Plus Certification would also be preferre
